The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is the Union of choice in the Transport Sector due to the excellent service we provide to our thousands of members and the variety of benefits they enjoy as part of their monthly contributions. It is our mission to remain the largest Union in the Transport sector. It is of utmost importance to the Executive Council and Secretariat of UNTU to give meaning to our slogan “Pride – Unity – Trust”.
UNTU believes that the Union has a social responsibility to create decent work in the fight against poverty in South Africa. Low economic growth impacts directly on the high levels of poverty, poor education, poor social security, unsafe working environments, unemployment, long strike actions, gender and wage inequality, unproductivity and absenteeism. The Union will strive to improve its services though transparency, effective leadership, guidance and face to face interaction.
It’s UNTU’s core responsibility to look after your interests at the workplace whether or not it is through negotiating collective agreements on service conditions and salaries at the Transnet Bargaining Council, PRASA and Bombela or if you need assistance with retrenchments, job grading and evaluation or having representation at disciplinary hearings by the Union’s trained representatives.
UNTU is committed to give effect to its Constitution.
UNTU is committed to the mandate given to the Union by its members to serve their interest to the best of its ability by providing specialized services and assistance in the transport sector.
UNTU also provides legal assistance to members who during the execution of their duties are criminally charged. UNTU’s representatives serve the interest of its members on various statutory bodies like Pension Funds and Medical Aids.
UNTU is a non-profit organization (NPO) and is affiliated to the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA), the second largest national Trade Union centre in South Africa, to represent the interest of its members on a national and international level.
The Union believes that your work environment is determined by you. When decent work is practiced it encourages workers and grows the economy. Do the right thing. Join UNTU today!
