Ctrack Transport and Freight Index, covering Q1 2026.
Compiled in collaboration with independent economist Elize Kruger, the Index offers reliable and objective insight into the movement of goods across the economy. Distributed to industry stakeholders, partners, and media outlets, it continues to serve as a trusted reference point for logistics and freight analysis.
The latest report shows a broad-based recovery in the logistics sector, with the Ctrack Transport and Freight Index rising for three consecutive months to reach 125.0, its highest level since May 2024.
The Index increased by 6.2% compared to Q4 2025 and by 8.0% year on year, supported by stronger activity across most transport sub-sectors.
Key points from the report include:
- Sea freight was the strongest performer, up 14.3% quarter on quarter
- Storage and handling increased by 11.0%
- Road freight recovered strongly, up 5.9% quarter on quarter
- Rail freight continued its recovery, increasing by 5.8%
- Air freight declined by 7.5%, reflecting softer demand and higher fuel-related pressure
While the Q1 performance is encouraging, the report also highlights growing pressure from fuel price increases, global uncertainty and the potential impact on logistics costs, inflation and supply chains.
